From the moment the bell rang this morning, we knew it was going to be a great day! With sunshine pouring over the mountains and blue skies stretching above us, today was the kind of day that makes summer at Camp Highlander unforgettable.

Campers dove headfirst into every moment — whether it was jumping off the giant swing, paddling in a canoe, climbing to new heights on the rock wall, dribbling a soccer ball across the field or flying off the blob. The sun was shining, the energy was high, and the smiles were everywhere.

There’s something about sunshine that brings out the best in camp. Music in the Dining Hall makes everyone want to sing along, games are more spirited, and friendships grow even faster under the warmth of the summer sun. After a few days of mountain mist and afternoon showers, today’s sunshine felt like a true gift. Not just because it brought clear skies and warm weather, but because it gave us the chance to enjoy one of our favorite Camp Highlander traditions — Cookout on the Field.

There’s nothing quite like it. After a full day of camp activities, off-camp hikes, and endless adventure, campers and staff gathered on the grassy field for a relaxed, joy-filled dinner under the open sky. Crazy creeks scattered the lawn, music played in the background, and the smell of delicious burgers and hot dogs brought everyone together.

Campers were tossing frisbees, throwing footballs, dancing with friends, singing along to their favorite songs, and braiding each other’s hair. Some campers cozied up with books, while others just sat talking and laughing with friends. The energy was relaxed, happy, and completely unhurried — the way summer nights should be.

Tonight, the sun gave us more than warmth. It gave us connection, laughter, and a moment that reminded us: at Highlander, the best days are as simple as sunshine, a good meal, and a field full of friends.
