Evening Programs

Nights of Fun

It’s no secret at Camp Highlander that when the sun goes down the fun ramps up! Evening Programs, or EP’s, as they’re commonly referred to, are signature staples of the Camp Highlander experience. Our Evening Program schedule offers a diverse and electrifying array of entertainment. From carnivals and country fairs to camp-wide challenges and casino nights, we bring the fun every single night!

Though most of our EP’s (like our beloved Square Dances) are focused on bringing all of camp together for a fun-filled and memorable experience, we sometimes like to add a little competitive flair with cabin challenge programs like Battle of Old Forge!

As cabins are grouped together through an ever-changing range of criteria (zip codes, home states, on-camp programs, etc.), they are then pitted against one another in crazy, off-the-wall and often hilariously entertaining competitions. While you never know what fun awaits you, from musical ice buckets and Highlander Pictionary, to trivia contests and minute-to-win it style games, we bring a whole new definition to the phrase ‘friendly competition’ at Battle of Old Forge! All the while, our campers learn the values of teamwork and patience while realizing the value of winning (and losing) with integrity.

UNDER THE STARS

Sometimes, an EP is memorable not for the crazed excitement it offers but rather for the quintessential camping experience it delivers. Camping out under the stars is one of the simplest and most humbling opportunities our campers enjoy throughout the summer. For that one night, nothing else matters but the solid ground beneath your feet, the crackling roar of the campfire and the expansive, star-studded canvas of the night sky.

Staff and Campers load up only the most essential gear, wave goodbye to their fellow campers and hike up Old Forge Mountain to find a perfectly secluded spot to set up camp. Some of the boys gather sticks, dry leaves and wood for the fire while others unload the most important belongings they brought with them – chocolate bars, marshmallows and graham crackers! Before long, campers and counselors alike sit down to enjoy a blazing fire, with freshly carved roasting sticks in hand and faces stuffed full of melted, gooey goodness. Campers smiles are illuminated while their laughter and the flickering campfire flames ascend into the sky.
