A Letter from the Owners

Dear Parents,

As camp owners/directors, we wholeheartedly (and unsurprisingly!) believe in the value of the summer camp experience. This belief, however, runs much deeper than our current job titles. Both of us grew up attending summer camp as children and we both worked at summer camps as counselors. We experienced ourselves (and then witnessed first-hand) the positive, life-changing impact that summer camp can have on boys and girls of all ages.

Fast-forward a few years and both of our sons, Charlie and Carter, are regular summertime campers (our daughter, Catherine, is on her way – she’s still just a little too young!) Year after year, we have seen our sons transform and grow and mature and develop in ways only possible through their time spent at summer camp.

As parents ourselves, we firmly believe in the practice of preparing your child for the road – NOT the road for your child. As such, we aim to partner with our camp parents, coming alongside their efforts at home to build boys and girls who are prepared for the unpredictable road of life ahead. Day in and day out, that is what we work to accomplish at Camp Highlander – and that’s what summer camp, as we’ve seen and experienced, can accomplish better than almost any other event or program or life experience.

Prepare your child for the road, not the road for your child.

We truly believe that every child, if at all possible, should attend summer camp – whichever summer camp that may be. And while we hope that Camp Highlander is the best fit for each and every family, including yours, we know that simply will not be the case. So, whether it’s Highlander or one of the countless other incredible camps in the country, we want to encourage you to send your children to camp! There is no greater, life-changing gift you could give them.
