Airplane Travel

As soon as your camper is registered for camp, you will want to start thinking about their transportation to and from Camp Highlander. Many of our campers travel by plane and we gladly offer a free shuttle service both to and from the Asheville airport. We do not offer pick-up/drop-off service to any other airports.

Please make sure your camper’s arrival flight is scheduled between 6 a.m. and noon on opening day. With checking in, meeting cabin mates and counselors, unpacking, eating lunch and heading off to activities, all of the fun begins as soon as they arrive … and we don’t want them to miss a single minute of it!

On closing day, please schedule their departure flight within the same time frame (6 a.m. to noon) as we close down camp shortly thereafter and do not have the staff to stay at the airport past 1pm. If you encounter an issue with getting a flight please reach out to Mac Bishop.

Airport Shuttle Service

If you take advantage of our airport shuttle service, a Highlander representative will be waiting for your camper to get off the plane at the terminal gate in a Highlander Staff Shirt (this is by permission of airport security and not guaranteed). If we are not at the terminal gate, we are at the security gate/baggage claim area. The Highlander staff member will escort your camper and their luggage from the airport to camp. As soon as they arrive at camp, they will meet their counselors and fellow cabin mates and head straight up to their cabin to unpack!

If your camper is an unaccompanied minor, please designate the following person to take custody of your child at the airport:

Mac Bishop, 42 Dalton Road, Mills River, NC 28759. Phone: 828-891-7721.
