When you dropped your child off at Highlander, you saw the cabins, the smiling staff, and the trunks packed with bug spray, swimsuits, and silly costumes. You saw an organized, well-oiled machine—ready for another great session. But what you didn’t see was the magic that begins the moment the last car pulls away.
It’s a kind of magic that only happens when kids are free to jump from blobs, sing around campfires, and live fully in the moment—without phones, parents, or distractions. It’s a kind of magic that turns camp into more than just a place. It becomes a feeling. A rhythm. A home.
Camp is full of traditions, inside jokes, and meaningful moments that are hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t been here—and that’s part of what makes it so special. Your camper danced every day, laughed every night, and lived a joyful, unplugged life that most of their friends back home can hardly imagine.
Highlander is our Narnia—an escape into something real, good, and true. Thank you for giving your child the gift of this experience. Because of you, we got to witness the joy, courage, and connection that makes Highlander feel like the best place on Earth.
Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for sharing your incredible kids. And thank you for helping make this session pure magic. We can’t wait to welcome them (and you) home again next summer.
This is my last blog for the session…for the summer. I can’t believe it! I want to enjoy every moment with your children tomorrow! Thank you for your support of Camp Highlander and for connecting with us on this blog each day.
Our hearts are full of gratitude and SO MUCH LOVE for you!
Favorite Details of The Day
- Weather: We had a beautiful sunny day at camp, with a brief rain shower in the afternoon to cool us off.
- Meals: For breakfast we had blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs, sausage links, grits, oatmeal and a fruit and yogurt bar. For lunch we had chicken quesadillas, chips, salsa and homemade guacamole and sandwich bar. For dinner we had bbq pulled pork and pulled chicken, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, vinegar coleslaw, and salad bar and sandwich bar.
- EP: Tonight’s Evening Program was one of my all-time favorites—Dancing with the ACs! Each cabin selects an Activity Counselor to choreograph a dance routine together and perform it on stage for the entire camp. This night is always a celebration of creativity and courage, but more than anything, it’s a beautiful reflection of the joy, trust, and love that lives in our Highlander community.
Tomorrow we will:
