There’s something extra sweet about Sundays at Camp Highlander—and today, even with a little rain and cloud cover, the joy was overflowing. Why? Because it was National Ice Cream Day, and we had a surprise visit from Dolly’s Ice Cream Trolley!
You should have seen the faces of our campers light up as they lined up for their favorite flavors—from Highlander High Tide to the famous Chosatonga (that leaves your mouth blue for days) and classic Cookie Dough. There’s just something about a cold, delicious scoop on a warm summer day that brings out the biggest smiles and the happiest hearts. It was the perfect treat on a day that’s all about rest, reflection, and recharging for the week ahead.
Sundays at Camp Highlander are intentionally slower. We sleep in a little, enjoy a late breakfast, and take time to reconnect—with ourselves, with our cabinmates, and with this special place we get to call home for a few weeks each summer. From leisurely cabin activities to extra free time, Sunday is our pause, our breath, our chance to simply enjoy the beauty around us and the people beside us.
But… while the pace may have been slower, the buzz around camp was building. Why? Color War dreams.
Yes, the anticipation is very real. The rumors are swirling. Every little moment sparks suspicion—like the fact that I wore a green staff shirt today (was it a clue?!). Campers are whispering, watching, and waiting… certain that any unusual event could mean Color War is about to break. And while I won’t give anything away just yet, let’s just say… the energy is electric and soon their dreams will come true.
Today may have been cloudy, but it was still filled with color—ice cream flavors, cabin laughter, and dreams of Red vs. Blue echoing through the trees. At Camp Highlander, even a quiet Sunday in the rain can be packed with joy, connection, and electric anticipation. There is still so much in store for this session… and one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be unforgettable.
Favorite Details of The Day
- Chapel: This morning for chapel we read Where Did my Giggle Go? We reminded campers and staff that joy often returns when we stop focusing on ourselves and start sharing love and laughter with those around us.
- Weather: We had a sunny morning and cloudy afternoon. The rain started to fall around 4:30 but it didn’t interrupt our fun.
- Meals: For breakfast we had blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs, sausage links, grits, oatmeal and a fruit and yogurt bar. For lunch we had grilled cheese, tomato soup and french fries with a salad bar and sandwich bar. For dinner we had chicken parmesan, penne with marinara, roasted broccoli, garlic bread and a salad bar and sandwich bar.
- EP: Tonight’s Evening Program was Campfire. We danced, sang and celebrated an amazing week at camp. We enjoyed cookies and milk after campfire and settled in for a good night’s sleep before another amazing week at camp!
