We kicked off Color War with an incredible full day of competition! The weather was just right—warm and sunny, with the coolest & most beautiful evening we’ve had all session. The spirit of the teams was contagious on camp today, with campers cheering, chanting, and giving it their all at every event. While the competition was fierce, the real magic came from the incredible teamwork and sportsmanship I witnessed. Watching campers lift each other up as they cheered for their friends on the opposite team, played hard and pushed themselves and others to do their best, and most of all - had so much fun doing it!

My favorite part of the day was reffing tonight’s Lower Camp Steal the Bacon, and while the face paint was tough and the stares were cold…as each competitor got down on the mat I heard little whispers that melted my heart. Whispers of support, love and friendship over competition. My heart almost exploded as I watched these precious children fight hard, but love harder! As two courageous young men took the mat tonight, I saw them shake hands, hug and let out a little laugh. Both wanted to win, yet both wanted to lose so their friend could win. As I looked these young men in the eyes I said, “All you can do is your very best, and then…” then the BK camper finished my sentence…”and then, we will do the rest.” They got it - this was one event, one moment, in a war full of so many. Then the RD camper said, “Yeah. Do your best, and then we will do the rest.” At that, they raised to their knees and hugged. Tears filled my eyes. I love this so much! I love what Color War teaches our campers! All they could do was their best, and after it was over…they would do their best in the rest.

This is Color War- at the end of the day, it’s giving your best and walking away, win or lose, knowing that you will give your best again for all the rest of the challenges coming your way! In these precious moments, we are reminded that friendship trumps competition every single time!
