Today was an almost perfect day - one of those days at camp where everything just felt right. After five days together, our cabin groups have really found their rhythm. The routines are familiar, the friendships are forming, and there’s a noticeable shift—more smiles, more laughter, and a whole lot more fun. The initial nerves and newness have faded, and in their place is a growing sense of comfort and connection. It’s clear that campers are settling into life with their Highlander family.

Tonight was Cookout, and I have to say—it’s one of my absolute favorite traditions. There’s something special about the simplicity of this evening: the relaxed atmosphere, the easy conversations, and the feeling of togetherness it brings. Some campers played frisbee or passed a soccer ball back and forth, while others dove into intense tetherball matches. Circles of friends sprawled out in their crazy creeks, laughing, chatting, and making friendship bracelets. A few campers sang while waiting for their burgers, and others quietly read books, perfectly content amid the happy chaos. This is Highlander at its best—a place that feels like home, filled with joy, connection and the simple gift of being a kid.

And to finish off the almost perfect day…tonight’s EP was one of my favorite nights of the session: Talent Show! I’m always amazed by how quickly our campers find the courage to take the stage—just five days into camp, and they’re ready to shine for their friends and the camp community. I love watching cabins work together to create skits, songs, or dances, laughing and bonding as they prepare their act. My heart is ready to explode when I see those quiet heroes who stand right off stage to support a friend, making sure no one has to be brave alone. And nothing can top the joy on each performer’s face when they finish—glowing with pride and soaking in the applause—the BEST! What never ceases to amaze me is the love from the audience: the way we cheer, sing along, call out names, and rise to our feet in celebration of one another. These are the moments that define a summer at Camp Highlander—joyful, unforgettable, and full of love.
