Laughter is the soundtrack of summer at Camp Highlander. Whether the sun is shining high above the mountains or rain is falling softly over camp, there’s one thing we can count on—joy is everywhere.
Today brought it all: golden sunshine, bursts of belly laughs, and a surprise evening rain shower that changed our plans but not our spirits. The morning was picture-perfect—campers played, explored, and soaked up the sunshine with wide grins and sun-kissed faces. The sounds of laughter echoed from the lake to the treetops, as cabin units tackled each new adventure side by side.
Then, just as we gathered for dinner, the skies opened up. Rain gently fell, and while our evening plans had to pivot, our happiness didn’t miss a beat. Campers laughed and danced through puddles, raced to the gym for camper’s choice sign ups, and enjoyed every little moment. That’s the spirit of Highlander: finding joy not just in spite of the weather, but because of it.
Favorite Details of The Day
- Reflect at the Rock: This morning at Reflect, Virginia shared with us the power of positivity and choosing to transform difficult circumstances into new opportunities. When hard things come our way, how do we respond? Do we get angry or frustrated, do we ignore them and hope they will go away or do we see the challenge as an opportunity for growth.
- Weather: During activities today, we had sunshine and warm weather. It was absolutely beautiful from reflect at the rock until dinner. Just before the dinner bell rang, the thunder struck and the rain began to fall.
- Meals: For breakfast we had pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, grits, oatmeal and a fresh fruit bar. For lunch we had chicken quesadillas with homemade guacamole, chips and salsa. As we do every day, we had a salad and sandwich bar. Dinner was delicious - grilled flank steak, mashed potatoes, homemade rolls, salad bar, sandwich bar. After camper’s choice announcements, the dining hall erupted in the Gus’ chant and Bryan agreed we could all have Gus’ tonight. (Gus’ is our candy and soda shack on camp.) The campers and staff were SO excited.
- EP: Tonight’s EP was Night at the Races. We gathered in the gym and split into teams for a series of races against other teams. Each cabin participated in different relay races and events for their team score. It was a super fun night of laughter and joy!
