At Camp Highlander, we know that what makes camp truly unforgettable isn’t just the activities — it’s the people you share them with. After nearly a week of adventure and late-night laughs, our campers will be the first to tell you: their cabinmates are the best part of camp.

Yes, flying down the zipline is a thrill, and bouncing off the blob is pure joy — but those moments become magic when you’re experiencing them with your friends. It’s not just about doing something fun; it’s about who’s cheering you on, who’s laughing beside you, and who’s there to make every moment more meaningful.

Today, I witnessed a renewed sense of gratitude — for camp and especially for our cabin units. As we begin to realize just how quickly this session is flying by, there’s an urgency to soak up every remaining moment with the people who matter most to us here.

Walking around camp, I saw cabins working together, playing side by side, and sharing laughter like only close friends can. But these cabin groups are not just friends, they’ve become family.

And that’s the magic of Camp Highlander: the activities are amazing, the adventures are unforgettable, but it’s the relationships — the bonds built within our cabins — that make this place truly feel like home.

Favorite Details of The Day

  • Reflect at the Rock: Jeremy, our Sports Division Head, talked about the power of our words…more specifically the word we use to label people. He shared that as a kid he was given a nickname or label that encouraged him to persevere, be tough and overcome adversity. But what if he had been given a negative nickname, or label, because he was smaller than most of the boys his age. He reminded us that words should be used to speak life into others, to build others up and to encourage them. These are the words that really do make today better than yesterday for you and for them!
  • Weather: We are having record high temperatures at camp. We are loving the sunshine but really loving our water activities and the cold ice cream sandwiches we had for dessert!
  • Meals: For breakfast we had french toast sticks, scrambled eggs, sausage links, grits, oatmeal and a fresh fruit bar. For lunch we had walking tacos, a Camp Highlander signature - frito bags stuffed with taco meat and all the fixings. And yes, we eat out of the bag…why…becuase this is camp and we are all about making memories, like eating out of a bag. We also had a salad bar and a sandwich bar. Dinner was greek chicken with vegetables, rosemary potatoes, red pepper hummus and pita bread, along with our salad bar, sandwich bar and whole fruit. For dessert we had chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches! AMAZING!
  • EP: Tonight’s EP was Counselor Hunt. Counselors decked out in camo and mud to hide all over camp for a giant game of hide and seek. Cabin 10 took home the EP trophy for the most points.
