At the end of Reflect at the Rock each morning, as a camp we “Make today better than yesterday, as good as you hope tomorrow will be, with courage, honesty, integrity and faith as you live the Highlander Creed.” Our goal each day as individuals, as a cabin and as a camp is to be our best, do our best and give our best each and every day here at camp. We encourage our campers to make today better than yesterday, as they seek to try new things, make new friends and embrace new adventures. Making today better than yesterday is not about accomplishments or performance, but about attitude and effort. When we mess up today, we know that our mistakes don’t define who we are but they push us towards growth and change. This is only possible because of the incredible support we have of our friends and camp family who love us where we are but still challenge us to be more!

Tonight was our Session C Talent Show, and it was AMAZING! I love the way cabins work together to create an act and make memories. I love seeing those campers who serve as moral support and just stand up on stage with a friend so they don’t have to do it alone. I love the smiles on each performer’s face as they finish their act and bask in their applause. Most of all, I love our sweet, supportive community that rallies behind each performer as they clap or sing along to the music, scream and cheer for friends by name and even give a standing ovation! This is the true meaning of encouragement - campers are infused with courage to stand on stage in front of 350 people to perform because of their cabinmates, counselors and friends who say “You’ve got this!”

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect at the Rock: This morning at Reflect Lindsey shared Mother Teresa’s “Anyway” poem. It was a reminder to all of us that regardless of what other people may do or say…forgive, be kind, be honest, be happy, do good and give your best. We often think we have to respond to what happens to us, but we actually have the choice to rise above and do good anyway.
  • Weather: Sunny skies ALL DAY today on Old Forge Mountain! The morning began with cooler temperatures but quickly warmed up to a high of 84 degrees! There was a light breeze in the air that made today truly perfect!
  • Meals: Breakfast this morning was cinnamon rolls, bacon, scrambled eggs and our fresh fruit and yogurt bar. Lunch was a camper favorite…walking tacos, with all the fixings including homemade guacamole, and a salad and sandwich bar. For dinner we had Papa John’s pizza and crudites with hummus and ranch. The campers started the Gus’ chant after announcements, and we all had candy or soda after camper’s choice sign ups.
