This morning was the final half day of Color War 2023 with the final program of Color War! The plays for both teams were fantastic! I am in awe of how talented our staff and campers are and what they are capable of accomplishing. The plays were so creative, thoughtful, funny and sweet. The costumes and sets were great too…and they did all of this in 3 days!! I was impressed at how none of the plays tried to mimic the Hobbit, Winnie the Pooh or Barbie, but they both took them and made it relevant to your children and to camp. I found myself tearing up during both of the alma mater performances (another part of the final program in addition to a staff plaque), because the past three and a half days have been incredible!

After all the points for competitions, evening programs and our final program was tallied, the Blue Knights were named the winners of Color War 2023. It was a great war, a fair match and a nail biter until the very end. I am so very proud of each and every one of our campers and staff members for their hard work and dedication to their team and to the legacy of Color War.

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Post Color War Plans: After a long 3 1/2 days of competition, we were in need of some rest. We had a two hour rest hour today. After rest hour, we went into camp clean-up and gathered LOTS of lost and found on the mountain from Color War. We had one activity period this afternoon that was relaxing and peaceful for everyone! Rest and a lot of doing nothing was what we had on the agenda today, and it was so good!
  • Weather: We had another beautiful day on Old Forge. It was a hot one, but we have been so blessed with sunshine on camp that I won’t complain about the heat. The high today was 88 degrees and the low was 62. THe temperatures dropped just a bit after dinner, which should ensure a great night’s sleep for everyone! We definitely need it!
  • Meals: Breakfast this morning was bagels with cream cheese, sausage patties, scrambled eggs and our fresh fruit and yogurt bar. Lunch was fried chicken fingers, grilled chicken tenders, french fries and a salad and sandwich bar. For dinner we had Papa John’s pizza and crudite plates.
  • EP: Tonight’s EP was Movie Night! The campers went crazy tonight in the dining hall when we announced a movie night for EP. We ONLY do movie night after Color War at camp, and it is a true blessing after a very busy 3 days of Color War. When the bell rang for campers to come down to the gym, they were so excited to find out we had dessert waiting for them in Gus’ by the gym. Assorted novelty ice cream treats from drumsticks to oreo ice cream sandwiches to klondikes and popsicles. Everyone was so excited to have a cold treat on a warm summer’s night!
