What an amazing day we had today on Old Forge! Today was the last full day of activities as a cabin, and everyone was soaking up every fun activity with their friends. I can’t believe how quickly this session has passed, and I am sad that tomorrow we will pack and have our final campfire. It has all gone TOO FAST! This session has been such an amazing way to start our summer because of the energy and enthusiasm of your children! They are kind, funny, friendly, loving, adventurous, happy and truly amazing human beings! Bryan and I cannot thank you enough for sharing them with us. As parents, we know how hard it is to let your child go and experience adventure on their own without you. As camp directors, we believe that your sacrifice and selflessness of sending them to Camp Highlander will be one of the greatest investments you make in their journey to adulthood. They have developed skills that they will take with them into the work-force, learned lessons that will positively impact their future choices and built friendships that will last a lifetime. This week with them has been unforgettable for us, and I am pretty sure unforgettable for them too!

Tomorrow we will:

  • pack up in the morning,
  • dance in the dining hall at lunch
  • enjoy our last 3 activities with our cabin
  • have an awards ceremony
  • eat pizza for dinner with our friends
  • enjoy one final campfire
  • and fall asleep dreaming of the summer of 2024 when we do it all again!

Tomorrow will be another GREAT day at CH! Tomorrow I will soak up every moment with your kids and cherish the memories we have made in Kickoff Camp 2023. Thank you for your support of Camp Highlander and for connecting with us on this blog each day. Our hearts are full of gratitude and love for you!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect at the Rock: Today Lyndsey talked to us about teamwork! Being a part of the team at camp, which is your cabin unit. As a teammate, your job is to cheer each other on and lift each other up. Having an entire group of people in your corner that believe in you is a gift. She reminded us in these last few days of camp, be the teammate that others need!
  • Weather: The forecast called for rain, but it’s always sunny at Highlander because the campers bring the sunshine! We had a few sprinkles today, but we were blessed to enjoy our last full day of activities with no rainy day games and all activities were open!
  • Meals: For breakfast we had waffles, sausage patties, scrambled eggs and a fruit bar. For lunch we had walking tacos, sandwich bar and salad bar. For dinner we had one of our oldest Highlander traditions…cookout…hamburgers, hotdogs, pasta salad, potato chips, watermelon and chocolate chip cookies. After dinner, we had a great surprise! The ice cream truck came driving up the road and stopped at Camp Highlander for special treats for all our campers and staff! It was awesome!
  • EP: Tonight’s EP was A Night at the Races. The cabins were broken up into four co-ed teams and they competed in various races to the finish line. From the inchworm to the over-under pass to the hula-hoop train. It was so much fun and in the end the green team took home the win!
