FUN was the theme of the day here on Old Forge Mountain! We started off the morning with a very fun surprise…DUNKIN DONUTS for breakfast! As the donuts were brought to the table, the cheers, dancing and screams from the campers were awesome! They were SO happy…and that was before the sugar rush!

All day today, everywhere I turned, there were campers having so much fun at activities. Today I noticed that the nerves are worn off and campers are living their best life at Highlander. I love that camp makes everything better and everything more fun! The simplest things like tetherball or a game of basketball offer more laughter and joy than they do at home. Even as campers ran back to their cabins in the pouring down rain after lunch, they were holding out their hands to try and catch the rain, as if they wanted to savor this moment. I am so proud of the way your children have jumped into camp feet first and are squeezing every bit of fun from each day.

This afternoon down at the lake, cabin 16 was beaming with pride as they were finishing their canoeing class. “We did it!” “I paddled so hard.” “That was so fun!” Smiling, I stopped and said, “Hey girls, it looks like canoeing was a blast, where are you going next?” With absolute confidence and excitement, Kinley responded, “I am not sure, but I KNOW it’s gonna be fun!”

Oh how I love that response! At camp, it doesn’t matter where you are going or what you are doing…we know, without a doubt, it’s gonna be fun!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect at the Rock: Mac talked about life being a reflection of our actions. If you want to see more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more unity in your cabin, focus on your teamwork. Life gives you back everything that you give to it.
  • Weather: The weather was better than expected today. I woke up this morning and was worried because the forecast predicted 100% rain all afternoon. We had sunshine all morning and just as we were finishing lunch, the rain started to pour. Everyone raced back to their cabins for rest hour and campers were quickly lulled to sleep from the rain on the tin roof. Just as the snack bell rang, the rain stopped and everyone headed back out for an afternoon in the sun.
  • Meals: For breakfast we had donuts, bacon, scrambled eggs and a fruit bar. For lunch we had baked ziti, steamed broccoli, breadsticks, salad bar and sandwich bar. For dinner we had chicken fajitas with fajita vegetables, black beans, rice, and the yummiest homemade guacamole. The dining hall went crazy when the disco ball was turned on and we had cinnamon and sugar churros for dessert!
  • EP: Tonight’s EP is my absolute favorite…Square Dance! We had so much fun dancing and singing and running around the gym. We do-si-doed our partners, did the chicken dance, swung our corner lady and finished the night with our tradition of the Footloose line dance!
