We had another great day at camp today, but tonight was unforgettable! Tonight we had our Session A Talent Show, and it was fantastic! We had almost 30 acts tonight of singing, dancing, comedy routines, piano performances, gymnastics and more. I am so proud of each and every performer for the courage and confidence they showed to get out in front of their camp family and perform.

As I sat in the gym watching the stage come to life, I found that my favorite performances come from the crowd. With every musical presentation, there were hands waving in the air or clapping to the beat. Act after act, there were standing ovations, high fives, cheers and incredible support shown for our brothers and sisters at Highlander. It was the reaction of the crowd that brought the biggest smile to each performers’ face. As they left the stage, they felt loved, and I felt their confidence grow before my eyes.

In moments like these, I am in awe of the way our campers, who just met one another a few days ago, have become devoted supporters of their cabinmates and friends. The love and support in the gym tonight was truly overwhelming, and I just thought to myself, “This is what makes Camp Highlander A Place Like No Other!” Thank you for sharing your talented, kind-hearted and loving children with us!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect at the Rock: I was so excited to start our day with sunshine at Reflect at the Rock. Today Matthew, our head counselor of upper boys camp, shared a story about perseverance and seeing obstacles you face as an opportunity to improve. If you’re able to push through moments that are challenging, you will end up building your strength, resilience and character. We have certainly learned that lesson this week with the rain!
  • Weather: This morning at assembly, the leadership team played “I can see clearly now the rain is gone…” and the sun was shining brightly. We started our day with beautiful weather as the perfect backdrop for our activities this morning. Just as the lunch bell rang, the rain started to fall again. We had a few showers this afternoon, but it didn’t dampen our spirits at camp!
  • Meals: For breakfast we had cinnamon rolls, scrambled eggs, bacon and a fruit bar. For lunch we had grilled chicken club sandwiches, sweet potato fries and a salad bar. For dinner we enjoyed our Friday night tradition…Papa John’s pizza. The kitchen also prepared some veggies with hummus and ranch, but the pizza was a huge hit! Campers and staff started to chant Gus’ after dinner tonight and everyone enjoyed their favorite candy after camper’s choice sign-ups!
