You can’t decide.

You know there are so many benefits to sleepaway camp for kids, but making the decision to send them can be the toughest part thanks to ‘mom guilt’ - something that certainly applies to dads too.

Don’t worry!

Highlander can handle it!

As my children excitedly prepare for their second summer at Camp Highlander, I wanted to share why you, too, can find comfort in sending your children to Highlander.

  • Support is always available. Camp Highlander offers direct links on its website for parents to connect with camp directors. Reach out before camp and ask what kind of support is available for your child if they need it. During camp sessions, the front office is open during the day to field phone calls and answer emails regarding any concerns you might have.

  • Cabin units and friendships above all. Each cabin has at least two counselors who help make sure campers feel welcomed, loved and safe. Highlander counselors help campers navigate through any challenges they may have emotionally and make sure each camper is having fun and fitting in. There’s something for everyone at Camp Highlander - a perfect place that combines physical activity, creative expression, true participation and a community environment.

  • Communicate throughout camp! Stay connected with your child while they’re away and before they go, be sure to show them how you will do so. Join the Campanion app to receive fun photos of your camper and write emails to them throughout their camp session. Be sure to also write them ‘snail mail’ letters as well to let them know that you’re thinking of them - maybe even send a letter in advance so there’s a note waiting for them upon arrival. And don’t be discouraged if you don’t hear back….my boys said they were far ‘too busy’ to write back to me!

  • Camp Highlander is an American Camp Association accredited camp meaning it implements policies that reflect the camping industry’s recognized standards in health, safety and risk management. Camp staff undergo a thorough screening process including two interviews, background checks and reference reviews.

  • Health & Safety at Camp Highlander is a top priority. Full-time registered nurses are available 24-hours a day at camp to offer aid, comfort and medical support when needed.

  • Bellies will be full! Camp Highlander’s dining hall is full of delicious options for even the pickiest of campers to enjoy. Hot meals are served three times a day alongside fruit, vegetable, cereal and sandwich stations. There is such positive energy surrounding meal time from announcements made to family-style moments at the cabin tables. Camp staff also pop around with the ‘Apple Cart’ during afternoon activities and there are snack times too.

  • Big picture camp benefits! Camp Highlander can be one of the best gifts you can give your child. Highlander camp sessions are great opportunities for your kids to learn valuable life skills and develop independence. They’ll also learn to be more responsible, gain problem-solving skills, make new friends and create memories that will last a lifetime.

There are two lasting bequests we can give our children. One is roots. The other is wings.

Our children are in such good hands at Camp Highlander. We just have to be able to pack their wings.
