It was another great day on Old Forge! In spite of the threatening storms, we had a sunny and beautiful day here at camp without a drop of rain. I am so grateful that our campers were able to enjoy their last day of activities with clear skies and a light breeze whispering in the Carolina Pines. Today was camper’s choice day, and the smiles were BIG on camp. Campers LOVE camper’s choice days for the freedom and flexibility that they give. It is only fitting that we give them the opportunity to finish this session strong by choosing their own activities, setting their own schedule, so they can leave camp with no regrets.

Tonight’s EP, Halloween, was a huge hit! The gym was the spot for our spooky Halloween dance, and the CIT’s spent all day today converting the Rec Hall into a haunted house. The campers really loved getting to trick-or-treat in July, and the candy made tonight even sweeter. What a great way to end a great session! The campers said the haunted house “wasn’t really scary,” and I have to agree. The only thing that is scary to me is how quickly the session has passed. They say time flies when you’re having fun, and boy have we had fun!

Bryan and I want to thank you for sharing your precious children with us. Session B has been truly magical. The smiles, hugs and high fives from your children have meant more to us than they will ever know. Their love for this mountain and their Highlander family has been a daily inspiration and a gift to us.

This will be my last blog for the session, as I will choose to enjoy every last minute of camp with your children. Thank you for your support of Camp Highlander and for connecting with us on this blog each day. I hope it has given you a window into our world and that you have felt the spirit of Highlander at home. Let me know in the comment section below!

Our hearts are full of gratitude and love for you! See you Friday!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect: Kaitlyn talked to us about adversity. How do you respond when adversity knocks at your door? We each hold the potential to change our world by choosing positivity in spite of adversity.
  • Meals: We started our day with the most amazing waffles, sausage links, scrambled eggs, and fruit! Seriously…the waffles!! The lunch game was strong with everyone’s favorite: chicken tenders and hot fries, and the veggies and roasted red pepper hummus were pretty delicious too! It was amore for dinner - chicken alfreado, roasted broccoli, garlic bread and caesar salad.
  • Weather: It was a great day with a little overcast skies and a little breeze.
  • EP: Halloween at Highlander! Spooky and sweet night of fun!
