Outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, or camping have become more and more popular in society over the past few years, especially during the pandemic. These outdoor adventures promote a healthy lifestyple, provide social connection, increase learning new skills, and offer a deep connection with nature. People who pursue these activities in today’s culture have been called “adventure seekers,” but at Highlander we just call them campers!
Today was another day of adventure seeking at Highlander. Adventure included everything from trying new activities on camp like yoga or pottery to exploring the Western North Carolina mountains off camp on day hikes or white water rafting trips. Each adventure holds amazing opportunity for our campers to grow closer to another and to nature, while learning new skills or perfecting old ones.
One of the things that I love about Highlander is the structure and schedule of the day. While the schedule for every day is constant, no two days are the same. The daily schedule provides the comfort for campers to know what to expect each day. Yet, every day holds new adventures, new opprotunities and new memories to be made because no two days are exactly alike. From meals to activities to evening programs, each day has an element of surprise, challenge and joy that we didn’t anticipate, making a summer at Camp Highlander, the Adventure Seeker’s dream vacation!
