Ask any camp owner and they will tell you, the most valuable asset for a successful summer at camp is the staff. At Camp Highlander we have always been blessed by incredible men and women who are committed to our mission and our campers each summer.

The summer of 2020 gave us a new appreciation for this amazing group of people that we affectionately call a “Staff Like No Other.” We are so thankful for our small team who stepped out in courage to serve our camp families during our 2020 Family Retreats.

There were 23 of us who lived, worked, played, laughed and sang at the top of our lungs together for 4 incredible weeks. Unlike other summers, we never left camp, and honestly, we never wanted to. In the midst of a very strange time, we were able to escape into a Highlander bubble and experience camp like never before. We were early to rise and late to bed. We worked in the kitchen, cleaned the cabins and bathrooms, taught activities, ran evening programs, and never stopped smiling (behind our masks). On days off, we did camp activities together, relaxed at the pool, played games, enjoyed great conversation and non-stop laughs.

Most of all, these amazing staff members embodied the ONE LOVE of Camp Highlander each and every day. Families complimented them on the way they worked together, served one another and delivered exceptional service. One mom said she overheard one of our staff asking what he could do to help his fellow staff member that day because he had an open period. She said that this is why she wanted her kids at Camp Highlander. She said, “I want my children to be around role models who think of others first.”

From the kitchen to Crow’s Nest, these staff left an unforgettable mark on this mountain, on our camp families and on our hearts. We are forever grateful. Thank you Charlie, Madeline, Ellen, Miss Kaye, Jackson, Jeff, Isaias, Austin, Lindsey, Spencer, Annie, Gene, Evan “Bush,” Abigail, Emily, Lucy, Katie M., V, Katie S., Natalia and Big Mac! Bryan and I LOVE you so much!

Here is a window into a “Summer Like No Other” that, like all summers, would not have been the same without our amazing Highlander staff.
