We had an awesome day of activities as cabin groups today. After five days together, the cabins seem to be in the routine of camp and everything is starting to click. Campers have found a comfort with their cabinmates, and today I noticed more joy, more smiles and more fun at camp than we’ve had all session.

As I sat on the steps of the land sports field tonight at cookout,my heart was full with the little things that make camp so amazing and fun. I watched as a group of campers played a casual game of ultimate frisbee, while another group of campers took turns at tetherball. Groups of girls and boys sat in circles in their crazy creeks talking and laughing without a care in the world. While some girls were braiding their friends’ hair, other campers were kicking around a soccer ball. There were campers dancing and singing to the music, as they waited in line for their burger, and even a few campers who got lost in a book, in spite of the chaos that surrounded them.

This is my happy place…right smack in the middle of the crazy, funny, silly, playful, sweaty, buggy, hot fun of summer camp. I love that camp allows our campers to just be themselves as they find their happy place here too.

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect at the Rock: This morning Gaynell talked with us about priorities. The saying “It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.” Do we really believe that? Do our behaviors show that? What is the priority in our life? Winning or playing our best?
  • Meals: Breakfast was bagels with cream cheese and scrambled eggs and fruit bar. Lunch was chicken fingers and french fries. (Camper favorite!!) Dinner was cookout on the athletic field with hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, pasta salad, potato chips, watermelon and chocolate chip cookies!
  • EP: Mission Impossible! This is a super fun game of scavenger hunt combined with freeze tag and capture the flag. The pictures make it look like the campers just walked around all night, but there was a method to the madness and they were definitely on a mission. We had a blast!
  • Weather: We were so fortunate to have sunshine all day again today! Though we woke up to cool temperatures this morning, the sun was out and it was hot today. The high was 88 degrees and the low was 69 degrees.
