When I was growing up, I remember being so exicted to wake up on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons on the couch. I remember those popular jingles from commericals that would stick in my head on repeat all day long, and I used think, “Is coffee really that good?” As an adult, I really do love my coffee, but to me the best part of waking up at Camp Highlander…your children! No matter how tired I am, how little sleep I got the night before, they bring sunshine to my morning and brighten every day.
We were blessed to wake up to a super awesome, jam-packed, fun-filled day on Old Forge Mountain today! Today was sleep in Saturday! Campers and staff enjoyed sleeping in until 8:45 this morning and got some much needed rest after a fast, full and busy week. We didn’t have Reflect at the Rock or assembly this morning, so we jumped right into activities after breakfast and never stopped. Last night when we annouced the good news at dinner, the screams from the campers and staff were deafening! Sleeping in late, Krispy Kreme donuts and Camper’s Choice Day…it just doesn’t get any better than this!
Favorite Details of the Day
- Meals: The best part about sleep in Saturday…Krispy Kreme donuts! Breakfast was donuts,eggs, bacon and fruit bar. Lunch was wings (plain, buffalo and terriyaki), baked potato salad, carrots and celery and salad bar. Dinner was chicken fettucine alfredo, steamed broccoli, garlic breadsticks and salad bar.
- Camper’s Choice: Today was camper’s choice day. We had some special trips and events today including some HBA (Highlander Basketball Association) games, a trip to a horse show and an off-camp mountain biking trip to Dupont State Forest. Some campers worked on their master in cooking by making their own pizza dough and fired it in our pizza oven, while others were perfecting their form at archery. We had a new activity today down at Silver Lake - fishing! And of course, Dance-A-Thon was back today with over 4o campers who we lovingly call “the party rockers!”
- EP: Monte Carlo! The carnival was in town and decided that the Gillespie Gymnasium was the perfect location for the fun! Everyone enjoyed great food, games and memories with friends.
- Weather: All in all, today was another beautiful day. We had about two hours of rain today, but the rain came at all the right times and did not interfere with our activities and fun for the day. I couldn’t have planned it any better if I had order the rain myself!
