It was a great day - a beautiful blue sky, a warm shining sun, and a light breeze whispering in the Carolina Pines. Today was camper’s choice day and the last full day of activities for campers in Session A. The campers LOVE camper’s choice days, so it is very fitting that we give them the opportunity to finish strong by choosing their own activities, setting their own schedule, so they can leave camp with no regrets.

Tonight’s EP, Talent Show, brought big smiles and lots of laughs. We heard beautiful solos, piano performances, skits, dances, jokes and more. While I admire every camper’s courage to get on stage and perform, I am overwhelmed with pride over the love and support of the crowd. With every dance, every song, every joke, the crowd rose to their feet, cheered and clapped for their camp family and friends. I could see the fear melt away and the confidence set in as the crowd responded with overwhelming support for every act that performed.

Following the Talent Show, we watched the Session A episode of the WBLT. Scroll down to the end of the blog to enjoy our campers bringing the news from Old Forge Mountain! You won’t want to miss it!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect at the Rock: “Life is a do-it-yourself project.” Your attitude and the choices you make today will help build the house you live in tomorrow. Build wisely.
  • Meals: Breakfast was pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and fruit bar. Lunch was tacos and salad bar. Dinner was fried chicken, corn on the cob, haricot verts, biscuits and salad bar. We had dirt and worms for dessert (chocolate pudding, oreo crumble, whipped cream and gummy worms), a camp favorite!
  • EP: Talent Show!
  • Special Events: Intermediate girls enjoyed watching the sun rise on the lacrosse field with hot chocolate this morning. Waking up at 5:45 was tough, but the view and the memories made were worth it!
  • Weather: The weather was gorgeous today! It was chilly this morning but the sun was shining all day. The high was 84 with a low of 63! Perfection!

Bryan and I want to thank you for sharing your precious children with us. Session A has been truly magical. The smiles, hugs and high fives from your children have meant more to us than they will ever know. Their love for this mountain and their Highlander family has been a daily inspiration and a gift to us. Thank you for your support of Camp Highlander and for connecting with us on this blog each day.

Our hearts are full of gratitude and love for you!
