It was a beautiful day on Old Forge Mountain! Truly perfect! We woke up to chilly temperatures (63 degrees), and the campers and staff came down to Reflect in sweatshirts, sweatpants and long sleeves. By the start of first period, 10:00am, the temperatures were in the upper 70’s and climbed all the way to 84 degrees for the high. The sun was just glorious all day. It was hot, but the perfect kind of hot - hot with a breeze. Are you jealous yet? Honestly, this is what I love about summers in North Carolina. Growing up in Louisiana, we could only dream of weather like this. I am so glad that your children are here at Camp Highlander to walk on sunshine with us - and don’t it feel good!

Favorite Details of the Day:

  • Reflect - Today Adam shared with us the secret to happiness - as you seek to make others happy, you find it is you who feels the true joy. He asked everyone to think of one thing someone could do for them that would really make them happy - let them go first at an activity, make them a gift at an art class, sit by them at lunch. Whatever it was that they thought of, Adam said “do that for someone else and you will see how happy that act will make you.”
  • Meals - Breakfast was pancakes and sausage, oatmeal, grits and fruit bar. Lunch was grilled cheese, tomato soup and salad bar. Dinner was chicken parmesan, spaghetti with marinara, roasted broccoli and garlic bread.
  • EP - Every year the CITs give a gift to camp and put on an EP during Session B. The past 4 or 5 years, they have chosen to do a Haunted House/Halloween Party. This year’s CIT class did the same for tonight’s EP. The campers had a great time dancing and hanging out with friends before they went in the haunted house(this was tailored for each age group). The best part of the night was the dancing. They sang at the top of their lungs to their favorite song and did what they call dance, though it looked a lot like jumping to me. It was a really fun night!
