Traditionally the day after Color War is the day of rest. Everyone is very tired after a long 4 days of competition, and nothing sounds better than a lazy day. Campers enjoy just hanging out with friends and soaking up every last minute of camp. But today, our lazy day started with the two Color War plays, and they were amazing!

Our theme this Color War was Pirates: Transformation on the Seven Seas. The White Knight play told the story of a young boy and his journey to becoming a pirate. The Red Devil play told the story of a good pirate who was mean but changed her ways to become a good person, which made her a not so good pirate.

After the final programs this morning, the Green Giants announced the winner of Color War 2018 - The Red Devils. This was an emotional moment for everyone. There were tears from both teams - tears of joy, tears of disappointment and tears of relief. Everyone was happy that we are finally back to the regular routine of camp.

After lunch, we enjoyed an extra long rest hour and some much needed sleep. After rest hour, our senior campers enjoyed an afternoon of fun at the bowling alley. Our intermediate and junior campers enjoyed a movie in the gym and a surprise visit from the Dolly’s Trolley - the best ice cream in the entire world!

FAVORITE DETAILS OF THE DAY:

  • Meals - Breakfast was waffles, eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, grits and oatmeal. Lunch was grilled cheese, tomato soup and salad bar. Dinner was Papa John’s Pizza! The kids LOVED it!
  • Special Guests - We had some very special guests join us for dinner tonight. Mrs. Kaye (our retired kitchen manager) and Mr. Gene (former riflery instructor) came by camp for a visit. The campers went crazy when they walked in the dining hall, hugging them and telling them how much we missed them. At dinner, we made an announcement that made the dining hall erupt: Gene has decided to come out of retirement to teach riflery again in the summer of 2019. We are so excited about this news!
  • EP – Square Dance!
  • Weather - The weather was amazing this morning. The sun was shining brightly this morning and not one drop of rain fell during the play. The rain started after dinner, so we had square dance in the gym.
  • Best part of my day – Sharing my birthday with my camp family and these awesome campers and staff who had a birthday today too! Having a lazy day was SO MUCH FUN!

Tonight we had our very last square dance of the summer. When Bryan announced it as the last at dinner, my heart sunk. I knew it was coming, but it just came too fast. The summer is almost over, and I cannot believe how quickly it has passed. I am so grateful for the opportunity to spend the summer with your children. They have filled my days with laughter, hugs, joy and so much love.
