Dear Camp Highlander Family,

Shelley and I happily shared a lifelong dream of one day owning and operating a summer camp. Our goal was to use this dream to positively impact the lives of boys and girls from all across the country and throughout the world.

For the past 18 years, we have been incredibly blessed to call this dream a reality - with one big exception. We’ve found that the lives most deeply impacted by our time at Camp Highlander have been our own. Through all the challenges and celebrations, the setbacks and successes, through the countless friendships made and memories shared, you, our beloved Camp Highlander family, have had a profound impact on us. And for that, we are eternally grateful.

But our dream did not end with us. All along we hoped to pass down the legacy of Camp Highlander to our children and their children after them - to pass the torch of life-changing impact from one generation to the next.

And so, with great pride and tremendous joy, we are pleased to announce that the summer of 2018 will be our last at the helm of Camp Highlander. Melissa and Bryan, our incredible daughter and son-in-law, who have themselves helped shape and deliver the Highlander experience for nearly the last two decades, will be receiving the torch and carrying on the legacy.

So you see, our lifelong dream is being fulfilled in its entirety. As one chapter of owning and operating camp ourselves comes to a close, another begins - a beautiful, exciting chapter of transition as we watch Melissa and Bryan experience the indescribable joy that we’ve cherished these 18 years.

For our part, Shelley and I plan to retire and invest more time with all of our wonderful children and 16 grandchildren! We will never be able to repay each one of you for all the kindness, grace, joy, peace and love you have shown us. Please know you all hold a very special, Highlander-shaped place in our hearts.

One Love, Karl + Shelley Alexander
