Summer us upon us! We can’t wait to see returning campers and meet new campers who are coming to the mountain for the very first time. Our Administrative Director, Beth Lynch, has provided these important tips to help ensure your camper is all set for the most awesome summer, ever!

  1. Parent Authorization Form and Health History Forms – Please complete all required forms! Under the law, we cannot house your camper without these completed forms.

  2. Medication – All prescription and over-the-counter medication must be packaged in blister packs. If you did not order your blister packs ahead of time, you can package the meds with the nurses in the gym on opening day.

  3. Bring Proper Footwear – We do not allow crocs or summer shoes without a backstrap, such as flip flops or slides. These types of sandals do not afford enough protection for camp terrain. All terrain sandals with a backstrap are fine. Also, shoes with a heel are required for horseback riding.

  4. No Package Policy – We do not accept any packages for campers. Gift packages create unhealthy competition within the cabin until and disrupt the harmony of the cabin. We will be returning all packages home, unopened. If your camper has forgotten an item at home, please email Beth and she will arrange for you to send the forgotten item. To avoid frustration, please share this policy with friends and family that may send packages to your camper.

  5. Shipping Luggage Home – We are only able ship your camper’s luggage home with a prepaid FedEx or UPS label. These labels are paid in advance. Packing Slips with a company FEDEX or UPS account number cannot be used. Please deliver the prepaid tags to the camp office at the beginning of the camp session. Any items left behind will be shipped by home at the parent’s expense.

  6. Emails & Photos – Every parent who provided an email address when registering their child has a login and password to email their child. Your username is your email address. If you have forgotten your password, simply click RETRIEVE PASSWORD. Your camper is not able to email you in return, but will write letters to be mailed via USPS.

We love taking pictures of your child at camp! You can view and purchase photos of camp activities each day using your login on the Camp Highlander website. We encourage you to view the photos daily. Please also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more daily pictures of camp.

  1. Camper Accounts – CASH OR CHECK ONLY! Each camper has an account that is used for purchases in the camp store or for cash for spending while on off camp trips to purchase souvenirs. At the camp store, your child can purchase items such as t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, stationary, stamps, crazy creek chairs, toiletries, Gatorade, etc. Please send the amount appropriate for your child’s spending habits. Most campers will spend it all, so only send what you are comfortable with them spending. We recommend a minimum of $50.00 a week. You can track your camper’s spending by logging in with your username and password.

  2. Packing – Make sure your camper has a bathing suit in his/her backpack and is easily accessible. Swim evaluations are held right after lunch before your camper has unpacked their belongings. Also, every camper and cabin participates in themes for Evening Programs. Don’t forget to pack wacky hats, clothing, costumes and accessories. Remember to be creative and express yourself! Have fun dressing up for themed activities and evening programs. Also, pack something special to wear for dances and the final banquet. Please refer to the attached packing list.

  3. Parent Handbook and Packing List – The Highlander Parent Handbook is prepared each year with parents and campers in mind. Communication is a key ingredient in the success of your camper’s experience at Camp Highlander. Please help your camper by reviewing all information with them and preparing them for the weeks ahead. This will boost their confidence and help acclimate your family to the policies and procedures at camp.
