For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together. For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.
~Edwin Way Teale

I love fall! It is such a beautiful time of year in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Watching the leaves change, their colors are magnificent, and this mountain we call home is more colorful that you can imagine. This is the picture of the mountain as I drive to work each morning, with the sun shining on the trees that shade the cabins where you were sleeping this summer.

I imagine what our Assembly would be this morning, on this Thursday morning. If we were all gathered around the assembly court, as we all passed this beautiful bright orange tree in the cool of the morning. It’s 30 Thursday. If I was Jonathan, I think I would say today is “Give 30 seconds of thanks for what Camp Highlander has given you.” Fall is a time we give thanks, and I am so thankful for Camp Highlander and all of our camp family.

Traditionally, fall is a time of harvest, of gathering together with the ones you love. But for our camp family, our time of harvest is summer. The harvest for us is the arrival of our amazing campers and staff, you are the blessing to us. We work all year, we plant, we labor for the harvest of summer when you arrive and this mountain is filled with the life and love of our campers and staff.

So today I am reminded of the harvest, when we will all gather together as a family and celebrate this mountain that we love. With each falling leaf, I will give thanks and wait patiently for the time when we will say at the assembly court, “Good Morning Camp Highlander.”

Hugs,
Melissa
