Bryan and Melissa Fitzgerald

Camp Owners + Directors

Bryan and Melissa joined the Highlander family in 2002, moving from Honolulu, Hawaii, where Bryan had been stationed with the Navy on board the submarine USS Olympia.

Returning to North Carolina where they had grown up as campers and camp counselors, Bryan and Melissa began working at camp and learning the family business (Melissa’s parents had purchased Camp Highlander just a few years earlier).

Over the next 16 years, they served in virtually every role on camp, from whitewater rafting guide to camp director, before becoming the owners of Camp Highlander in January of 2019.

Bryan and Melissa live on camp year-round with their three children: Charlie, Carter, and Catherine (and their two dogs, Roux and Lovey!) As the owners and directors of camp, their love for children and passion for helping them grow is the driving force behind everything we do at Highlander.
