Moving Up North

We are having such a great time in Florida. Thank you to all families that hosted shows for us. It is so wonderful to see all the support Camp Highlander has in Florida. Thanks to Highlander alum Daphne Moss for hosting a great show at her beautiful home in Marco Island. We have two shows left, one in Jacksonville and one in Lutz (our Windermere show has been postponed). I'll be spending most of this week doing staff interviews at FSU, UCF and UF. Our new staff members are amazing, and I can't wait for all of you to meet them. They are all so excited to be a part of the Camp Highlander family.
I hope you all are enjoying your winter. We had our first snow at camp the other day. Log in to look at pictures of camp covered in snow.
Take care,
Becki

We all want to give a special thanks to Michelle and Bruce Bernstein and Alan Levine for letting us stay in their lovely homes while we are in Florida. Their Highlander hospitality has been greatly appreciated.
Also thanks to Karen and Doug Barash and Dave and Lara Smith for inviting us to share dinner with them at their homes. A break from McDonald's is wonderful.

As I sit here in Starbucks pondering the difficult situation of Brittany Spears, I can only find comfort knowing that had she been to Camp Highlander her life could have been different. However, we can't cry over split milk and must move forward and continue to realize our dreams by creating memories and friends at Camp Highlander.
Let me first begin by saying what a wonderful feeling it is to see all of our Highlander campers and parents in their off season environment. Its neat to see our campers talk about school and the sports they are playing and expressing what they have learned from Highlander in their everyday lives. The love that everyone has for Camp Highlander makes them a better person throughout the entire year. I can't wait to continue our tour in Florida, as we move west and north to Marco Island, Orlando, Tampa and Ponte Vedra. Its always great to see everyone.

The Wild Wild Florida Tour!

There is never a dull moment when Gaynell, Becki and I are on the road. This first ten days has been filled with a flurry of activity including a run in with Chris Hill's three foot boa constrictor and Olivia Bender's bengal tiger cat. All kidding aside, this has been the most productive and intense Florida tour during my years at Highlander. Becki has done a great job of coordinating our visits to the families homes that have resulted in seeing all of our wonderful campers and parents, and meeting many new families that will hopefully join our Highlander crew. While on this tour, let me not forget the complete rush of excitement that was created on going to visit with the Grossman clan. It is always such a treat to walk into a home where there is such a total committment to Camp Highlander, this place we all love. Its shows like these that make my job the "dream job. "
Thank you to the Barket, Ross, Bender, Sarason, Hill and Grossman families for giving us such a warm welcome!
See you on the road. Please feel free to call me on the road to talk about camp at
(828) 243-9701.
Take care,
Karl

We are having such a great time down in Florida. The Alumni Gala was a blast, and we are excited for an even bigger turnout next year. All Alumni be on the lookout for a special Campfire Society newsletter. Thank you to all campers and parents that showed up at the Camper Reunion at Sugar Sands Park. Congrats to raffle winners, Ryan Parrish, Stefanie Hyatt, Stefanie Roy and Nikki Smith! We are on the road for the next few weeks! Thank you Barket family for hosting us last night in Miami. Check out our schedule and contact the office if you need directions to a movie showing.
Can't wait to see all of you this summer!

Fantastic Two Days!

It was great to begin the Florida tour with our Alumni Gala with all five decades of Highlander history represented. Alumni came from as far aways as Texas and Washington DC. Thanks Janie-Lyn and Scott for hosting an excellent get together. The Alumni White Knights edged the Alumni Red Devils in the first annual Alumni Color War. Though it was a close Mountain Relay Race...Al we are still not sure that was a cart wheel. All Alumni please contact the office and make sure we have your updated information. This is only the beginning for the cool things we have in store for the Campfire Society.
Seeing all of the campers and staff at the reunion is always a great thrill! Most of you clean up "pretty" well...sorry Alvan. I hope that seeing all your camp buddies and counselors begins to have you all think about your Camp Highlander memories. Camp Highlander is such a special place and we should keep it in our hearts throughout the year.
See you soon!
Gaynell

Boy is it hot down here! Definitely different then North Carolina. When we left it was 11 degrees and we just had our first snow fall of the winter season. But we are having a great time visiting with all of you campers, staff and parents. The Alumni Gala and Reunion were wonderful, and we couldn't believe how many of you showed up to see us. This is our favorite part of the off season; seeing all of YOU!
We have had a few changes to our schedule so make sure to look at the website for updates. Feel free to come and visit us if you are in the area. I'm always looking to take some of you for ice cream or a burger, so if you're interested let me know.
Talk soon,
Karl
