Each summer we have over 900 campers drive through the gates of Camp Highlander with great anticipation and expectation of the fun to come. Fun is usually the first priority for the camper, but what is the first priority for you as the parent? At Camp Highlander, we know that each camper is special and comes with different hopes, needs and ambitions. Our goal is to seek to meet the expectations of you and your child through intentional programming, positive role models and exciting activities.

Many of you have heard a recurring theme from Camp Highlander about our commitment to “partnering with parents” on your journey of raising your children. Your partnership is a crucial piece to the impact we can have on the life of your child and your family, and the first step into action is just a phone call away.

The best part of my workday is the privilege and honor of speaking with you, our parents, to learn more about your wonderful children. With each conversation, I gain valuable information that can impact your child and their experience at camp. Some parents will share goals or specific skills they want their child to gain while away at camp. Other parents may voice concerns about challenges they anticipate for their camper in this new environment. Every parent wants the same thing…a successful summer experience for his or her child, and so do we.

From year to year, our children grow and mature in so many ways. With each new stage of life come new challenges that can be physical, emotional or social. Your feedback on your child’s development gives us insight into their personality, temperament and needs. These conversations are translated into an action plan or training tools for our counselors to create the best summer camp experience possible.

Each summer I look forward to my favorite phone calls, the ones after everyone goes home. It is with immense joy and gratitude that I listen as you share the victories of your child at Highlander or the growth you have witnessed from only a few weeks away from home. In these stories we see the gift of camp, the joy of our journey.

In all the countless conversations, I find the common thread with all Highlander parents is that they are wonderful people trying to raise the very best children that they can. I look forward to hearing from you over the next few months and learning more about how we can best support you and your child this summer. Thank you for partnering with us to impact lives through camp. We owe our journey to you!
